After New Years, we started our trip south. Before we left
the DC Metro area, we stopped at National Harbor to check it out and have lunch
with Sherman. In Richmond, we enjoyed the American Civil War Center. When we
got to Florida we had some work done on the RV, before attending a Born Free
rally at the Tampa RV Super Show. We are starting the long, painful process of
looking for a replacement RV. We teamed up with Rialta owners and friends Larry
and Edi to inspect a few RVs. We are looking for an RV with a different bed
arrangement. We went with our RV club to St Petersburg and toured the Chihuly
Collection Museum, an amazing collection of glass art (even I was impressed).

We are always searching for new places to explore in Florida
and our best find on this trip was the Circle B Bar Reserve, near Lakeland.
Many of the bird pictures in this blog were taken there. The other good birding
spot was Meddard Co. Park at sunset. We got some canoeing done on the
Chassahowitzka River and saw a few friendly manatees. Up on the Panhandle, we
found the rare white squirrels of the Ochlockonee River. In Panama City, we joined
up with our previous RV club (Rialtas) and caught up with old friends.
Although we will be spending most of the summer in Fernie,
BC, we had August free. In lieu of fighting summer crowds for campsites all
month, we decided to try for a volunteer job. In less than a week we had landed
a ‘job’ at a historic tree nursery in Lolo National Forest in Montana.
