Trip Update Dec 2010 Ecuador to PA part 2

Valley in the Andes

We got picked up from the hotel in Quito and headed out to the Andes. It was a five hour drive up to the Black Sheep Inn, an ECO-lodge near Chugchilan. The lodge was unusual - with composting toilets in the bathrooms, wood stoves in the bedrooms for heat, the gray and rainwater were collected and used for irrigation, and the food was locally grown and all vegetarian. Local guides were available for hiking, horseback riding, or just transportation. We took a five hour horseback ride up to the Cloud Forest and took a hike along the rim of a large volcanic crater, Laguna Quilotoa. On one hike Pat was bitten on the leg by a small dog. Fortunately, she is up-to-date on her tetanus shot and the dog didn’t have rabies. She started carrying a walking stick after that for protection. Toward the end of our stay I was not feeling well, so we left a day earlier than planned and I recovered from a fever while resting in a hotel bed in Quito.

Trip Update 2010 Ecuador to PA Part 3

The next day we left Quito and headed back to Orlando. Before we left Orlando we went to the Gaylord Hotel and saw their ICE display. On the way back north, we stopped at Brunswick, GA to get our RV awning reinstalled. In MD, we winterized our RV and stored it at Susan and Windsor’s home. We stayed with Julie & Tom. I started the week off with a colonoscopy and Pat wrapped it up with carpal tunnel surgery. We also enjoyed Carol and Cordale’s Christmas party and dinner with Eldon and Lois. I caught up with my WSSC friends at plant luncheons.
We moved up to York, PA and stayed at Pat’s father’s house for a few days and entertained my family there on Christmas Eve. On Christmas morning, Linda, trying to keep up with her sister, got bitten by a pit bull. Fortunately it was not too serious. After leaving the emergency room, Linda returned home to entertain and feed a dozen family members. What a trooper!
We moved to Phil and Connie’s house and enjoyed their hospitality for a week. From here we made several trips to the Baltimore/Washington area. We visited with Pat’s brother Tom, her uncle Ted and aunt Noreen, and Don’s sister Barbara who was in the hospital for a couple of days. We ended the year with our traditional family New Year’s bowling party.
